Degenerate Art: The Nazi Propaganda War Against Modernity

The Nazis saw anything on the cultural landscape that did not conform with their world view as a challenge to their authority. Both Adolf Hitler and Propaganda Minister Josef Goebbels saw controlling the propaganda of all cultural spheres as important if they were to control the masses. This included fine art, which was considered “degenerate” if it was contemporary and did not accord with National Socialist ideology and cultural outlook.
